Congratulations!! You are newly engaged! A bride to be! A future wife! One of the first questions when you get engaged is how did he propose? And usually followed by when is the big day? It’s the question that you will hear immediately after making your big announcement. You are probably thinking and asking yourself “How do I choose a wedding date that works for everyone?” or “Where do I even begin?”
How to Choose A Wedding Date
Selecting a wedding date is one of the most important and exciting wedding planning activities you and your fiancé will get to participate in after getting engaged. Your wedding day is a special day, but it’s also about bringing family and friends together, so keep them in mind as you peep the calendar. While you may have a certain timeframe in mind, there may be dates that won’t work with your preferred wedding venue, your guest list, or your budget.
If you haven’t already considered a wedding date, you might be surprised to know there are many different factors that come into play before a decision can be made. We know you can’t wait to say “I do” but there are so many things to do before then, so make sure you give yourself enough time to plan your seamless day.
A wedding date is key because it could change many of your other wedding decisions. Your chosen wedding date will affect the rest of your wedding planning decisions. Most couples have a general idea of what they imagine when they walk down the aisle, but there are many other influences as well.
You can plan your wedding around a season, a location, or a special date. A few other things to consider are the budget of the wedding, the availability of wedding guests, and how much time you will need to plan your special day. For every couple, the process is completely different and that’s part of what makes your wedding date so special to you and your groom to be. Another key thing to remember is that you are your fiancé will be celebrating this anniversary for the rest of your lives.
Picking the Perfect Wedding Date
Selecting the perfect wedding date all comes down to finding a perfect balance. The best place to start is by choosing which season in which you’d like to get married. There are pros and cons to all the seasons. Do you want an outdoor wedding? If so then typically winter is out of the question. Or a destination wedding on a beach? The time of the year can affect your venue, wedding colors and even theme. Once you have decided on spring, summer, fall or winter, you can narrow it down to a particular month.
Others love the idea of tying the knot on a symbolic date. Is there a certain date that is meaningful to your and our fiancé? Maybe the anniversary of when you first met or your first kiss. A sentimental wedding date is a romantic touch and great story to tell. Plus, you will also have a hard time forgetting any of these important dates.
There is no point on settling on a date if your dream venue is unable to host on that day. If you are desiring a popular venue or securing a popular wedding vendor, then you will decide your date based on their availability. Most popular event spaces book up at least a year in advance so chances are you may have to compromise on your chosen date. Most bride and groom’s wedding date is determined mainly on what’s available at that location. This makes it easy if you and your partner are struggling to pick a wedding date.
Some wedding dates are more expensive than others. May, June, September and October are most popular wedding months. The most expensive time to get married is during peak wedding season. And the most expensive day of the week, of course is Saturday! If you have a strict budget, choose a wedding date outside of peak season. By doing this you can save a significant amount of money.
Although it’s nearly impossible to accommodate everyone’s hectic schedules, there are certain people that you absolutely want present at your wedding. These are obviously family members and best friends. If any of them can’t commit to that date, find other appropriate dates that work for all parties. Granted this is your special day but it’s even more special to share it with those closest to you.
Once you’ve settled on a date, book the venue and any other vendors you’ve decided on and start sending out save the dates. Voila!!! You have chosen your perfect wedding date!!
