In the latest episode, released on April 19, 2021, Kevin talks with John Armengol, president of operations for Andre’s Banquets and Catering. From how Andre’s got its name to how wedding planning has evolved over the years, the podcast covers plenty of interesting topics. The family business began with advice from a mentor to John’s dad, John Armengol Sr.
How it Started
“He said, well, you know, you should get into the banquet business. It’s a good business. People are booked way out in advance, and the food, and you need nice venues. So he kind of guided my dad and my dad started Andre’s at 45 with two kids at home. And my mom worked for American Can Company as an accountant. And we survived on her salary for the first six years. My dad never took a penny,” said John.
Since then, Andre’s has grown into a one-stop-shop events and wedding planning company with catering, coordinating and more. Over the years, they’ve seen wedding trends change.
How it’s Going
“The biggest trend that we started noticing when we opened our third venue, which was our Andre’s West location in Fenton, was people wanted to do the ceremony and the reception at the same spot. They didn’t want to do the two o’clock ceremony and then have a five-hour gap and a seven o’clock reception. They wanted to do it all at the same time venue,” explained John.
